Clear, secure steps to install Ledger Live, connect your Ledger device, and take your first actions. Official resources included.

Overview

Ledger Live is the official desktop and mobile application that works with Ledger hardware wallets to manage crypto assets, view portfolio balances, buy/swap/earn, and install apps on your device. This guide gives a concise, practical walkthrough so you can log in and get started safely.

Before you begin

Only download Ledger Live from the official Ledger site and support pages. Keep your recovery phrase private: Ledger will never ask for it. Official start and download pages are linked below for convenience.

Download & install Ledger Live

Step 1 — Get the official app

Go to ledger.com/start and choose the Ledger Live download for your platform (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android). Do not install copies from unknown sites.

Step 2 — Run the installer

Follow the installer prompts. On macOS drag the app to Applications; on Windows run the .exe. When first launched, Ledger Live will offer “Get started” and clear, guided steps to connect your Ledger hardware device.

Step 3 — Update & security

If prompted, update device firmware and Ledger Live to the latest version. Read the official support article if you see firmware prompts. Never share your 24-word recovery phrase with anyone or type it into any app or website.

Log in & connect your device

Connect your Ledger hardware

Use the supplied USB cable or Bluetooth (with supported models) to connect your Ledger device. Open Ledger Live and choose “Connect device.” Follow on-screen instructions to unlock the device with your PIN.

Account setup

After the device is recognized, add accounts for the cryptocurrencies you use. Ledger Live will present a list of supported assets and allow you to install apps on the device for each blockchain.

Troubleshooting

If Ledger Live doesn’t detect your device, try a different cable or USB port, ensure firmware is up-to-date, and consult Ledger Support.

First actions: send, receive, buy, swap

Receive

To receive crypto, open the account in Ledger Live, click Receive, select the asset, and verify the address on your device screen before sharing it.

Send

To send, create a transaction in Ledger Live and confirm it on your hardware device. Ledger Live prepares the transaction and the device signs it — keys never leave the device.

Buy & Swap

Ledger Live integrates third-party on-ramps and swap providers. When using these services, review fees and provider terms inside the app.
